Camberwick Green
A large village in Trumptonshire, approx. four country miles
from Trumpton and a rural local centre.
Camberwick Green is overlooked by Pippin Castle, a mostly medieval
fortress with some modernisation in the later Tudor period. As the county stronghold, Pippin Castle holds
the county magazine and is held by Captain Sydenham
Snort and Serjeant Grout and a small company of soldiers - Armitage, Featherby, Higgins, Hopwood,
Lumley & Meek – all in arrears of pay
and mutinous. Meek is a follower of
Raggy Dan and has apocalyptic visions about the second coming and vengeance of
the Lord appearing in Trumptonshire, ‘and
that right soon’.

Pippin Fortress has some ‘modern’ cannon and artillerymen. Mr Crockett, the waggoneer, has stables near
the Castle.

Dr Mopp, the apothecary is a noted barber surgeon and
herbalist in the County.
Mrs Honeyman is not a witch; despite much local speculation
and Mrs Dingle receives news from far away London.
The situation in Camberwick Green is tense; caught between
Parliamentarian Trumpton and Royalist ‘Chiglye’, and there have been signs in
the sky over Farmer Bell’s fields.

Pippin castle bears an uncanny likeness to a castle here in the Duchy, currently residing in the bowels of the shed. Perhaps they share the same Germanic architect? My late mother was called Doris and “Roaring Doris “ reminds me of the times I cause her to roar, not too often. Terrific illustrations and historical content , keep up the great work!
