A farewell to Berlin

Alas, time to say farewell to Berlin and its Baroque splendours...

but not before fulfilling a long time ambition of visiting the Berliner Zinnfiguren - which surpassed all expectations!

And how better than to spend the last evening attending Lutheran Vespers at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, with the glory of JS Bach on the organ, and thence to sip a Rex Bier from the Potsdam Brewery.

Bliss, as I am sure your Worships would agree.

On Campaign in East Prussia

The campaigning season must indeed be near as the 'Vauban and Shandy' blog found itself gazing across the river Oder at the former territory of the Prussia, now in Poland;

and in particular the fortress of Kustrin - bastion from the days of Frederick 1st

and sometime prison of Frederick the Great,

and the site of the execution of his friend and conspirator, the 'unfortunate Katt.'

It is a time of great celebration as Prussia celebrates 'Frederich der Grosse 300' - and the city of Berlin is doing 'Der Alte Fritz' proud.

The Hanoverian Horse Grenadiers

As winter quarters draws to an end, a first look at the Hanoverian Horse Grenadiers.

This new addition to the Lace Wars 'Red' army are heavy cavalry - and a match for the Bavarian Curassiers who are a most worthy opponent in the forthcoming season.

"The opening a siege, and the encamping of an army round the place, to block up its avenues, and prevent all ingress and egress….It is the cavalry that always begins to invest a place".

The figures are Britain's Life Guards with a Chris Ferree/TVAG Mitre Cap head from the Funny Little Warriors range
